Acrylic acid

Acrylic acid has a chemical formula of C3H4O2 and a molecular weight of 72.06. It is an organic compound. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, corrosive, and strong acidity. Soluble in water, ethanol and ether, but also soluble in benzene, acetone, chloroform, etc. The melting point is 13.5°C, the boiling point is 140.9°C, and the density (20/4°C) is 1.0611g/cm3. It is chemically active, easy to polymerize in the air, and can be reduced to propionic acid by hydrogenation. Addition with hydrogen chloride generates 2-chloropropionic acid. Used to prepare acrylic resin and other organic synthesis. It is produced by the oxidation of acrolein or the hydrolysis of acrylonitrile. It can also be produced by carbon monoxide, acetylene and water under the action of nickel catalyst.
