How to use phthalic anhydride

Phthalic anhydride is usually used in the form of chemical raw materials and needs to react with other substances under specific chemical reaction conditions to produce the final product. Phthalic anhydride can be used instead of phthalic acid, mainly reacting with monohydric alcohols to form esters, such as dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate, which are important plasticizers. Phthalic anhydride is polycondensed with polyols (such as glycerol and pentaerythritol) to form polyarylate resins, which are used in the paint industry. If it is polycondensed with ethylene glycol and unsaturated acids, unsaturated polyester resins are generated, which can be used to make insulating paints and glass fiber reinforced plastics. Phthalic anhydride is also a raw material for synthesizing benzoic acid and terephthalic acid, and is also used in drug synthesis.
