calcium formate

Calcium formate is an organic substance with the molecular formula C2H2O4Ca. It is used as a feed additive as a new feed additive. Feeding calcium formate to increase weight and using calcium formate as a feed additive for piglets can increase piglet appetite and reduce diarrhea rates. It is also used industrially as a concrete, mortar additive, leather tanning or as a preservative.

Calcium formate production method:

1. Neutralization method: Formic acid and hydrated lime are neutralized to generate calcium formate, which is refined to obtain commercial calcium formate.

2. Metathesis method: sodium formate and calcium nitrate undergo a metathesis reaction in the presence of a catalyst to obtain calcium formate and co-produce sodium nitrate. After refining, commercial calcium formate is obtained.

3. Epoxy fatty acid methyl ester by-product method: The production of epoxy fatty acid methyl ester is developing rapidly. The production process of this product will produce a large amount of formic acid as a by-product. One way to utilize this by-product of formic acid is to produce calcium formate.

4. Pentaerythritol by-product method: In the production process of pentaerythritol, calcium hydroxide is used to provide alkaline reaction conditions, and formic acid and calcium hydroxide are added in the subsequent reaction to neutralize the process while calcium formate is produced as a by-product.
