It is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H4Cl2O. It is a white crystalline powder, difficult to dissolve in water, and easily soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform, benzene and other organic solvents. It is mainly used as a pesticide and pharmaceutical intermediate for the synthesis of herbicidal ether. , 2,4-D, etc., can also be used as solvents.

There are five main production methods for 2,4-dichlorophenol: direct chlorination of phenol, chlorination of mixed phenols, selective chlorination of o-chlorophenol, chlorination of p-chlorophenol and catalytic chlorination of phenol.

SNOWHITE CHEM uses the direct chlorination method, and the production process is as follows:

Put 1000kg of phenol into a hot water pool of 80~90℃, heat and melt it, use vacuum to pump it into a 1500-liter glass-lined reactor with a coil, and introduce chlorine gas at a rate of 7.5kg per minute for chlorination. The reaction temperature gradually rise, and the temperature is controlled between 70 and 75°C through the coil and central jacket cooling water. The chlorinated tail gas is absorbed with water to produce industrial hydrochloric acid with a content of about 25%, and the remaining tail gas is absorbed with milk of lime to produce bleaching liquid for papermaking. After 3 hours of chlorine flow reaction, gradually reduce the chlorine flow rate. When the relative density of the chlorinated liquid reaches 1.402~1.405 (40°C), it is the end point of the chlorination reaction. Stop passing chlorine, and 2,4-dichlorophenol with a content of about 90% can be obtained. It contains monochlorophenol (o-chlorophenol and p-chlorophenol) ≤1.5%, 2,6-dichlorophenol ≤8%, and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol ≤05%. The chlorinated liquid can be purified to obtain 2,4-dichlorophenol with a content of 95%.
