Preparation and identification method of calcium propionate

It is prepared by the reaction of propionic acid with calcium hydroxide or calcium carbonate;

In industry, calcium hydroxide is generally used as raw material. Calcium hydroxide is adjusted into a suspension in a reaction pot, and propionic acid is added. The reaction temperature is maintained at 70-100℃, and the reaction is carried out for 2-3 hours. The pH value at the end of the reaction is controlled at 7-8. The reaction material is filtered and dried to obtain the finished product.

(1) Take 5mL of the sample solution (1+10) and heat it with 5mL of dilute sulfuric acid (1+9). It releases a special propionic acid smell.

(2) Dip the sample with a platinum wire moistened with hydrochloric acid, and it will turn red (brick red) in a colorless flame.
